FACTORS AFFECTING THE RATE OF REACTION
For any
homogeneous reaction temperature, pressure, and composition of the reaction
system are the most important factors which affect the rate of reaction
There also some
more factors which affect the rate of reaction which as follows
- Nature of reactants
- Concentration of reactants
- The temperature at which reaction occurs
- The pressure of the reacting system
- Presence of catalyst in the reaction
- The physical state of the reactants
- Rate of heat and mass transfer
Depending upon
these for the homogeneous system rate of reaction can be written as the function of composition and temperature as follows
- For the reaction A → R
- The rate equation can be written as
where
CAα = Concentration-dependent term
k0e-E/RT
= Temperature dependent term
E = Activation
energy
α = Order of
reaction with respect to A
