Types of size reduction equipment

          Size reduction equipment is divided into four principal types as follows

1.   Crushers:

     Crushers are used for breaking large pieces of solid material into small lumps

a.      Jaw crushers

c.      Crushing rolls

2.   Grinders : - 

       These are the machines which reduce crushed feed to powder

a.      Hammer mills

b.     Rolling- compression mills

c.      Attrition mills

d.     Revolving mills

                                                        i.            Rod mill

                                                     ii.            Ball mills

                                                   iii.            Tube mills

3.   Ultrafine grinders : - 

     These machines accept feed particles having a size less than 6mm and yield a product size  of 1 to 50 μm

a.      Hammer mills with internal classification

b.     Fluid energy mills

c.      Agitated mills

4.   Cutting Machines : - 

     These machines give particles of definite size and shape

a.      Knife, cutters, dicers, slitters
